How You Feeling, Labradorite?

I started getting into crystals about a year ago. I think crystals are fascinating and beautiful and full of mystery. Although my collection is slowly growing, I do not know much about crystals. I am getting better at identifying crystals but always have to research the healing properties of each stone before mediating. I thought It would be helpful to me, and you, to feature a stone and it’s properties, periodically.

One of my favorite crystals is Labradorite. It catches your eye right away and the color changes beautifully with movement. I could stare at labradorite all day long. I only have three labradorite crystals in my collection right now, but each one is uniquely different than the other. I can’t wait to add more to my collection.

What is Labradorite?

I was thinking about giving a description of Labradorite and then listing what healing benefits it can be used for. But honestly, you can find a plethora of sites and books with all of that information already. So as I was reading a Wikipedia definition of what Labradorite was and getting completely confused, I decided I’m going to do things a little differently. After all, this is my own personal journey! I’m going to list my thoughts and feelings about Labradorite and then list some of the healing properties. For me, it will test how accurate my thoughts, feelings and instincts are about a crystal.

What is Labradorite? To me Labradorite is a stone of peace. Calming. I feel like if I could see a galaxy, this is exactly what it would look like. I feel free. Lost but in a good way. There is so much going on within this stone, yet it feels balanced. The feeling is very positive and energizing. Like I’m surrounded by possibilities. It feels like a powerful healing stone. I feel like this stone would help with indecisiveness by providing clarity. I don’t know why but it feels very protective to me. I feel like this would be a good stone to keep at work or in a home office. It seems like it would be good for alleviating stressful feelings and would increase productivity.

How did my intuition do?

Labradorite may help with healing:

  • Disorders of the Eyes and Brain
  • Stress
  • Unregulated Metabolism
  • Common Colds
  • Gout
  • Rheumatism
  • Unbalanced Hormones
  • Menstrual Tension
  • High Blood Pressure

  • Allows us to focus on personal issues without being affected by external influences.
  • Allows us to be more tolerable of other people’s negative emotions or moods.
  • Encourages pursuit of new ideas and opportunities.
  • Assists with shifting awareness.
  • If worn, Labradorite’s beautiful iridescence protects the aura of the wearer by acting as a reflective shield.

Look at that. I didn’t do too bad! What thoughts and feelings do you get from Labradorite? Share with me in the comments!

Mala Bead Necklaces 101

Several months ago, I subscribed to a couple of different metaphysical monthly subscription boxes. Through these subscription boxes, I have received many different crystals and tools I can use on my spiritual journey. One of these boxes, Spiritual Guru, has included a beautiful handmade Mala bead necklace in each box. There were suggestions included on how to use the Mala bead necklaces, but I was curious about these beauties and wanted to know more. So I thought it would be fun to feature the Mala bead necklace this week!

What the heck is a Mala Bead Necklace?

A Mala Bead necklace is a strand of 108 beads. There is typically a 109th bead, referred to as the “guru” bead. The guru bead is attached directly to the tassel of the necklace. Although the significance of the 108 beads can be left up to interpretation, 108 has been considered a sacred number in Hinduism. They are traditionally used during meditation practices or prayer.

Benefits of Using Mala Beads

If you are familiar with Rosaries, I am told Mala beads are very similar. They are used to guide you during your meditation as you chant or repeat a positive word or affirmation. This can help focus your mind so it is not wandering during your meditation. Meditating or praying with Mala beads can help slow your heart rate, increase focus, and encourage well-being.

I find using my Mala beads during meditation, helps me focus on my affirmation and stop my mind from wandering. As someone who also suffers from anxiety and panic attacks, I’ve been using my Mala beads when I can feel a panic attack coming on. While sometimes my panic attacks can come out of nowhere, most of the time there is a trigger, an obsessive thought or feeling that causes them. When this happens, I grab my Mala beads close my eyes, and start slowing counting them, moving my fingers from bead to bead. I continue to do this until my mind and body have calmed down and the obsessive thought or feeling has left my body. I then will repeat counting the beads one more time, but this time repeating my positive affirmation while I move through the beads. If you suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, you know there can be a lot of self doubt and negative feelings after having one. Repeating my positive affirmation while moving through the Mala beads, after having a panic attack, helps refocus my mind on the positive and removes any self doubt or negative thoughts I may be experiencing.

How do I use a Mala Bead Necklace?

As with any metaphysical tool, there is no set in stone way to use it. A lot of it is trial and error and ultimately you need to do what feels right to you. This is a personal journey and therefore can be personalized!!

Here are some basic steps to get you started:

  • Grab your Mala bead necklace with your right hand.
  • Position the necklace so it is draped between your middle and index fingers.
  • Beginning with the guru bead, use your thumb to count each Mala bead, bringing the necklace towards you as you repeat your mantra or positive affirmation. If you are using the Mala beads to clear your mind and remove distraction, simply count each bead as your thumb passes over it.
  • Continue until you have touched all 108 Mala beads, and are back where you started, at the guru bead.
  • If you would like to continue with your meditation, when you get to the guru bead, reverse direction and continue with your meditation until you have reached the guru bead again.

Where can I buy a Mala Bead Necklace?

You can typically find Mala bead necklaces at a local metaphysical store, a healing crystal store or at your local yoga studio. You can also find a variety of Mala bead necklaces on the internet. Most Mala bead necklaces are made with healing crystals. You can purchase Mala bead necklaces made with different healing crystals or stones, for a specific use or intention.

If you are interested in subscribing to a monthly metaphysical subscription box, The Spiritual Guru Box is a great one to start with. So far, there has been a beautiful Mala bead necklace included in each box! I am not affiliated with Spiritual Guru, just a happy subscriber!
